Purple Hydrangea Scarf
15" x 60" silk habotai $42.
I have been creating art since childhood, always returning to nature for my subjects. Most of my work uses imagery in my immediate everyday world. Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers and I am currently challenged to get mine to move to ever more blue/purple colors. The images in this scarf are from photos of a friend's blossoms, made into silkscreens and printed on a silk scarf that had been dyed and overdyed.

Rainbow Salt Scarves
8" x 54" silk habotai $24. each
These scarves are created by brushing and splattering silk dyes, then setting rock salt on the wet surface. This causes the dye to move towards the salt and add an additional interesting texture. Everytime I make this type of scarf the colors are different.

Art Cloth
2 1/2 yards cotton $110.
In addition to scarves, I use surface design processes on yardage - from one to three yard lengths of silk or cotton. This piece started as white cotton yardage, then dyed, overdyed, stamped with thinned white fabric paint to build up an interesting background. The foreground of moons and dragonflies was silkscreened with additional white, then violet metallic and dark blue paint. These pieces can be used in a variety of ways - clothing, pillows, tablecloths, curtains, quilting fabric, etc. I am available upon consultation to do custom sewing of my fabrics.

Feather Scarves
(2) 8" x 54" silk habotai $35.
(1) 15" x 60" silk habotai $42
These rich colors of magenta and gold were obtained by tying the scarves and dipping them in a series of dyebaths. I used feathers from my chickens to make silkscreens and the images were printed in different shades of metalic paints.

Berries & Squares
8" x 54" silk habotai $32.
This a one-of-a-kind piece is folded, dyed, then overdyed twice. The printing was of natural leaves and berries of Mendocino County. The final touch was turquoise squares added by using a process of adhering foil to the fabric. My work is done one at a time or in small series with rarely more than two or three pieces alike. I never know what the exact colors will be with the process of dyeing multiple times.
